Wolf Infrared Broiler Burner
The infrared broiler is the burner a Wolf all-gas range broils with, pouring intense radiant heat onto the food to sear its outside. You select it with Broil on the oven knob, and Wolf's rules for it are short: no preheating, the door closed, and the two-piece broiler pan supplied with the range.

Broiling the way another oven taught: preheating first, or propping the door open to watch. Wolf asks for neither, and a broil done that way can pass for a weak burner.
- Sometimes
A slow-flashing indicator light over a cold oven. Wolf's explanation for its all-gas ovens is that two ignition attempts failed and the oven went into a safety lock-out.

No Broil on the knob. The 18-inch oven of a 48-inch range has no broiler and its knob no Broil mark; swap the knobs after cleaning and the main oven loses its Broil setting.

A broiler burner or ignition part that has actually failed, which we confirm by watching a complete ignition attempt before anything is replaced.
What it means for the repair
Wolf gives the oven burners in its GR all-gas ranges up to 40 seconds to light, the igniter clicking until the ignition board senses flame; if nothing has lit within seven seconds, the oven clears the gas for 40 seconds and tries again. Watching that sequence once tells us whether the spark, the gas or the flame sensing is the weak link. The broiler has no set price band on this site; its repair is quoted as one figure after the diagnosis.
Before you call
Check the knob first: the large oven’s knob should carry a Broil mark. Then broil as Wolf intends — rack set, door shut, no preheat. If the indicator light flashes slowly and the oven stays cold, turn the oven off and on once for a fresh attempt. After a second lock-out, stop and call Wolf Repair Kirkland on (425) 699-2400 rather than keep cycling a gas oven that will not light. If you smell gas at any point, turn the knob off, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
In Rose Hill kitchens
Rose Hill’s newer houses are often big homes on tight lots, with 36- and 48-inch ranges in open-plan kitchens. On a 48-inch model one of the two ovens is the small 18-inch one, and it has no broiler — so when a broiler here will not come on, the first thing we establish is which oven, and which knob, was in use.

Should I preheat the broiler on my Wolf gas range?
No. Wolf's gas range guide says not to preheat the infrared broiler: set the rack, choose Broil on the oven knob and cook in the two-piece broiler pan with the door closed. Preheating anyway, or broiling with the door open, is the habit we most often find behind a broiler that seems weak.
My Wolf dual fuel range will not broil. Is it the same part?
No. On a dual fuel range the oven is electric, broiler included, and on current models its broil levels run from BR1 to BR3. The infrared gas broiler belongs to the all-gas range. Wolf Repair Kirkland, (425) 699-2400, diagnoses either kind on the $89 visit.
