Wolf Spark Module
The spark module is the part of a Wolf range that turns the signal from a knob's ignition switch into the high-voltage pulse an electrode throws as a spark. It is live whenever the range has power, and it also re-sparks a burner whose flame has gone out.

The module is fine. A knob switch that is damp from cleaning, or a knob that has stayed pushed in, keeps asking it to fire — so the range clicks when nobody turned anything on.

One output has stopped. A single burner stays silent while its neighbours spark normally, and its electrode and lead test healthy.

The supply rather than the module: a breaker that tripped, or an outlet wired wrongly, which Wolf itself lists as a cause of sparking that will not stop.

A module that has failed outright, leaving every burner silent on a range whose oven light and clock still work.
What it means for the repair
A spark module is diagnosed by elimination. Before it is blamed we push each knob in and let it spring back, look at every electrode and its lead, and confirm the range is getting clean power. Only when the switches, electrodes and supply all check out does the module come out — and then it is swapped as one piece, matched to your serial number, and every burner is lit in turn before we leave.
That order matters for the bill. A switch or an electrode is a smaller job than a module, and a wet switch that dries out costs nothing but the visit.
Before you call
These are safe with the burners off. Press each knob in and release it: it should spring back, and if one was stuck the clicking often stops there and then. If it does not, switch the range off at the breaker for 30 seconds and back on. Wolf’s own advice for a range that sparks while nobody is using it is to have an electrician check the outlet’s wiring — we can rule the range in or out first.
In Houghton kitchens
Many Houghton houses had their Wolf range fitted into the original cabinetry during an update, so the range can be a generation older than the kitchen around it, and the outlet behind it older still. Near the lake the air stays damp for much of the year, and moisture is what an ignition circuit handles worst. That combination is why, here, we look at switches and supply before the module every time.

Can a Wolf spark module be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
It is replaced as a unit; there is nothing inside it worth repairing at the kitchen counter. The skill is proving it is the module first, because a stuck switch or a wet electrode makes exactly the same clicking. Is it dangerous if my range keeps clicking with nothing lit?
A spark with no gas flowing is a nuisance rather than a fire, but it should not be left. If you smell gas while it clicks, turn the knobs off, leave and call 911 or the gas utility from outside. If not, switch the range off at the breaker and ring Wolf Repair Kirkland on (425) 699-2400.
